Going shopping in the wrong clothes
26th July 2008 by Martin Howes
So, I'm walking around some shop, looking at the stuff on the shelves, and somebody comes up to me and starts asking questions or talking to me as if I am one of the shop assistants.
Why is this? Is it the expression on my face; that thoughtful air of authority?! Or is it the clothes I am wearing, slightly less casual than most of the other shoppers?
Once I was walking around a department store and somebody told me that their child had been sick. As if I was going to get the mess cleaned up. I was wearing a navy jacket at the time. So now I don't wear that kind of jacket when going shopping.
I try not to wear colours that match with the corporate colours of the store I am visiting. For example, I have a very nice purple shirt. It happens to be very similar to the shirts that the staff wear in PC World. So it is very important not to wear that particular shirt when visiting PC World, or I would be asked questions about the computer stuff on sale at that store. Whether I would be better at answering those questions than the staff is another matter!
