Hello, I'm Martin Howes. Welcome to this blog about running a small business in Luton. At the moment I'm still developing the templates and writing the initial content. I'm planning to add more content about once a week, but we'll see how it goes. I'm also planning to add one of those RSS thingymajigs.
I've been running my business in Luton since 1991, so I've got quite a lot of experience to draw from. My line of business is software development and IT consultancy.
As I'm a "geek", one of the subjects I'll be mentioning on this blog is how ICT (information and communication technology) can help small businesses. I've also got a long-standing interest in the enviroment so I'll also be blogging about how small businesses can help the important fight against climate change.
This blog is roughly divided into three sections. The news section will contain items I hope are relevant and interesting to anyone involved in running a small business in Luton. The opinion section will contain my personal thoughts on the challenges of running a small business. The journal section will tell you how I'm getting on with my own business and running this website.
There are other websites that promote Luton as a good place to do business, such as www.thinkluton.co.uk which is funded by major developers. This blog will be different because it will look at things from the viewpoint of an independent smalll business. Although I think Luton is a great place I won't be afraid to talk about some of the down sides too.
