Luton to get fibre-to-cabinet fast broadband in 2010

Fast broadband connections running at upto 60 megabits per second should be available in the Luton area in 2010. BT has announced that the Luton and Leagrave telephone exchanges will be among the first to use "fibre to the cabinet".
"Fibre to the cabinet" uses optical fibre between the telephone exchanges and cabinets located on the street, although the final connection from the street cabinet into the home or business will still use copper lines.
Broadband over fibre is already available in the Luton area on the Virgin Media cable network.
