Identity doesn't have to be a single choice

I am British. I am also English and I am European. I don't see any conflict in these three statements, because identity can be multi-faceted.

What region does Luton belong to? The East of England? The home counties? The South East? The Milton Keynes / South Midlands growth area? Politically, Luton is part of the East of England region. But economically, Luton is part of all these regions. It is a little confusing, but being part of all these regions is one of Luton's strengths as a business location.

Oh, I forgot to mention... Luton is also part of the Oxford to Cambridge Arc, another region of sorts.
